Here is a synopsis of crimes reported to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office in the past week:
- Grand larceny, Lancer Lane, Nov. 2: A male juvenile was charged with taking money from another’s wallet at the high school.
- Petit larceny, South Amherst Highway, Nov. 9: An outside bench was taken from the La Carreta restaurant.
- Grand larceny, Highland Circle, Nov. 4: A phase linear seven-inch touch-screen monitor DVD/CD player was taken from a vehicle.
- Shoplifting, Madison Square, Nov. 6: An 18-year-old Lynchburg woman was charged with taking a Samsung cellular telephone from Wal-Mart.
- Forgery, South Amherst Highway, Nov. 7: A 33-year-old Massies Mill man was arrested for passing counterfeit currency at McDonald’s, Shell and Hess in Madison Heights. He was charged with three counts of passing forged currency and possession of marijuana. He was being held without bond pending a preliminary hearing in Amherst General District Court.
- Grand larceny, West Bethel Drive, Nov. 3: Electronic items were taken from a locked residence. This case was later closed and the property recovered.
- Petit larceny, grand larceny, Lancer Lane, Oct. 30 and Nov. 4: Eighteen students at the high school had cash or property taken from the wrestling room and one classroom. One juvenile was apprehended and charged with two felonies and 16 misdemeanors and the majority of the property was recovered.
- Petit larceny, Wright Shop Road, Nov. 14: A man took a bottle of alcohol and left the store without paying.
- Possession of stolen vehicle, drunk in public, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, Fletcher’s Level, Nov. 15: A 44-year-old Lynchburg man was arrested and fought with officers. The vehicle had been taken earlier in Lynchburg. The man was being held without bond pending a preliminary hearing in Amherst General District Court.
