Bana Weems Caskey, the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution state regent, visited the Amherst area for a joint meeting with members from the Amherst, Blue Ridge, James River, John Lynch, Lynchburg and Poplar Forest chapters.
The event was at Sweet Briar College, where she was guest of honor at a Royal Tea, hosted by the Blue Ridge chapter.
Before the tea, Caskey met with members of the Amherst chapter at the Amherst Cemetery to dedicate grave markers for Elizabeth Parr Moore and Nancy Hudson Adams, late members of the chapter.
Members welcomed those to the tea, with Eva Lee H. Shober, director of the District III Virginia DAR and Mary-Jane Puckett, regent of the Amherst chapter, participating in the opening ritual.
It was announced that the Virginia DAR District III Regents Club meeting would be held at Southside Virginia Community College in Alberta, and that Shober and and Betty Gillispie Jennings would attend.
Dr. Julian Hudson, executive director of the Prestwould Foundation, was the speaker and presented a slide show on Prestwould, home of the Skipwith family, in Mecklenburg County. A donation of $100 will be made to Prestwould in his honor.
Shober announced that the District III meeting would be held July 25 in Danville, with members of the Dorothea Henry chapter as hostesses, and reminded the gathering that attendance was required for the state honor roll. She also said that the district’s Fall Muster would be Sept. 16 at the Holiday Inn in Staunton.
Jennings, chairwoman of the Regents Club nominating committee, presented the following slate of officers for the 2010-2012 term: Shirley Primiano, Dorothea Henry chapter, president; Jean Overman, William Taylor chapter, chaplain; Cyndi Fein, Blue Ridge chapter, recording secretary; Jane Pitts, John Lynch chapter, corresponding secretary; and Serena Green, Red Hill chapter, treasurer.
The District III Regents Club, organized in 1959, celebrated its 50th anniversary.
