Sheriff’s office to help D.A.R.E.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s Office is holding a fundraiser for the Amherst Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or D.A.R.E., program on Oct. 23 at the Clifford Baptist Church on Virginia 610 off of Virginia 151 in Amherst County, at 619 Fletcher’s Level Road, Amherst.
The venue seats 800 people.
The lead event will be country music singer and songwriter Jimmy Fortune.
Fortune sang tenor with the Statler Brothers for 21 years and was inducted into the Country Music and Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.
The opening act will be local bluegrass group Hard Driving Grass. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
A $7 barbecue plate dinner will be offered beginning at 5:30 p.m. The meal will be prepared by T.J. Lloyd of Tiny’s Catering.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door at the following locations: in Amherst, at the sheriff’s office, Ogden’s Outdoors and Sardis Grocery on U.S. 60 west; in Madison Heights, at Country Corner Market on Virginia 130, Ye Old Antique Shop (next to Pizza Hut), Pete’s Auto Sales and The Store, both on South Amherst Highway.
All Amherst County school resource officers at Amherst County High School and Monelison and Amherst middle schools will have tickets for sale.
In Lovingston, tickets are available at the Liberty Store in the Food Lion shopping center, and in Colleen at the Exxon station.
