The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team hosted the Ferrum College Panthers last Thursday at Babcock Field, and the Vixens won their second game of the season, beating the Panthers 20-5.
“The team is evenly distributed in the their scoring efforts, which creates numerous opportunities for us as a team,” said head coach Hillary London. “The balance is great because there’s no pressure for one individual to be a dominant scorer. We have great scoring variations within each offensive play.”
Sophomore Stewart Hulfish led the scoring with five goals and two assists.
Vixen attack players D.J. Abernathy and Meredith Newman scored four goals each. Newman also contributed with three assists.
Senior Megan Behrle scored two goals and had three assists.
First-year players Sarah Winstead and Mallory Lengel each had two goals. First-year attack player Ashley Salzman scored on an assist by Behrle.
Goalkeeper Laura Wolf is second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a save percentage of 79 percent. In Thursday’s game, Wolf came away with 19 saves and helped hold Ferrum to only five goals.
The Vixens were 2-0 overall after this match.
They were to begin conference play on March 18 at Washington and Lee University.
