More than 265 campers, teen counselors and adult volunteers from Amherst County attended summer 4-H Camp at Holliday Lake 4-H Center in Appomattox the week of July 27 to 31.
The camp theme was “the British Invasion,” about the British rock bands of the 1960s through the 1980s, and campers were organized into six groups: The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Police, The Who, Def Leppard and The Yardbirds.
Teen leaders helped plan meals that fit the theme, along with activities and competitions between the groups. Campers attended classes each day, such as swimming, canoeing, archery, crafts, cooking, rifle safety, forestry, model rocketry, soccer, basketball, volleyball, climbing tower, theater arts and counselor-in-training.
Amherst County hosted Niina Seppala, a 4-H exchange student from Finland who, while staying with a host family near Richmond, specifically requested to camp with Amherst County 4-H at Holiday Lake.
