Two former Brookneal police chiefs had their cases appear in Campbell County court Tuesday.

Former Brookneal police chief Ricky Cousins pleaded guilty Tuesday in a hearing in Campbell County General District Court to two counts of misdemeanor theft from the town while he served as chief.

Cousins was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and to pay back $232.43 to the town within 90 days, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Stacy Friend said.

Cousins resigned in January after being charged with shoplifting in Lynchburg.

Brian Carr, who succeeded him as acting police chief, was arrested by Virginia State Police in April on a charge of grand larceny.

His charge was certified during the same court session Tuesday to the next meeting of the county’s grand jury.
