Update: Flood warning for James River canceled

UPDATE:

A flood warning for the James River has been canceled.

The river is now forecast to only reach just above 20 feet at Holcomb Rock, below the 22 feet required to be considered flooding.

A flood warning for the Lower Roanoke River at Altavista and Brookneal has also been canceled, said WSLS Meteorologist Patrick McKee.

EARLIER:

A flood warning is in effect this morning for the Lynchburg area.

The James River is rise above 23 feet around 6 p.m. at Holcomb Rock in Bedford County.

Above 22 feet is considered minor flooding; above 24 feet is moderate flooding.

The river was observed at 17.23 feet at 11:45 p.m. yesterday.

The flood warning comes after one to three inches of rain fell in the area.
