Update: Amherst man arrested in Lynchburg store robbery

UPDATED JAN. 31:

Lynchburg police have arrested a man in connection with the Jan. 23 robbery of an Old Forest Road convenience store.

Derrick Christopher Beard, 33, of Amherst, is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and willfully preventing a person from summoning law enforcement.

Police said a man entered the Old Forest Road Food Mart that day with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk.After getting some money, he fled.

 

JAN 24.:

Lynchburg police are investigating the armed robbery of an Old Forest Road convenience store Monday night.

Police went to the Food Mart at 3216 Old Forest Road around 10:56 p.m., where a clerk told them a man with a black handgun had demanded money from the register.

The man left with some money.

He's described as:

  • black,
  • about six feet tall,
  • weighing 190 to 200 pounds,
  • wearing light-colored sweatpants and a black hooded sweatshirt.
