Construction crews will take the first step toward connecting sewer lines to Campbell County’s Seneca Commerce Park in three weeks.
“We expect to start clearing and grubbing by the end of the month,” said Mike Damron, administrator for the Campbell County Utilities and Service Authority.
This is the first of three phases of work that will provide sewage lines to companies in the business park.
The first phase, in which the main line will be installed, should be finished in six months. Completion of all three phases could be another two and a half years away based on funding.
The second phase will include the installation of a pump station at the park and the third phase is a gravity flow system inside the industrial park.
Although the primary purpose of the project is to provide sewer lines to the park, the county can connect to the sewer line in the future if there is a need.
The county can also increase the size of the pump station as the need grows.
The county currently is working with property owners to obtain easements.
The sewer main will follow a tributary of the Seneca Creek through their properties. The county needs access to the land in order to build, maintain and protect the line. The line will pass through six properties.
An appraiser assessed each property’s value and the county is offering landowners more than that amount. Only one landowner has not responded to the requests for access, Damron said. He said he hopes to have all property owners on board for the project soon.
This phase of the project will cost $392,000. The county has estimated the cost of the entire project at $2.2 million.
