A Bedford County woman accused of hitting two motorcyclists head-on on Peaks Road on Saturday has been charged with driving drunk, a prosecutor said Thursday.
In addition to the drunken-driving charge, Doris Coe, 40, has been charged with two counts of DUI maiming, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney John Wheelock said.
Police have not provided specific information about the motorcyclists’ injuries except to say that they were severe.
Coe was traveling southbound at about 6:30 p.m. on Peaks Road just north of the intersection with Kelso Mill Road when she drove her 2008 Ford Fusion across the centerline and struck a 1986 Honda Gold Wing driven by Anthony McClure, 50, also of Bedford County, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Robert Carpentieri.
McClure, and passenger Laura Fizer, 33, of Montvale, both had to be airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carpentieri said.
Coe is free on a $10,000 unsecured bond. No court dates have been scheduled.
