Since childhood, E.C. Glass juniors Sydney Moon and Paige Riley have been close neighbors and friends. On the tennis court, their relationship has proven to be a winning formula for the team’s No. 1 doubles pair.
For the third time this season, in Wednesday’s second Seminole District semifinal at City Stadium, the E.C. Glass and Brookville boys soccer teams engaged in a game decided by one goal. "It was a crazy, crazy game," Hilltoppers coach Randy Turille said after his team nearly lost a three-goal lead in a 4-3 victory. "There were a lot of momentum shifts. I give them all the credit in the world. They kept battling."

NARUNA — The last time Chatham ace Brad Haymes pitched against Appomattox, he tossed a no-hitter in a victory that put the Cavaliers in the driver’s seat in the Dogwood District race. In Friday night’s rematch with the Raiders at William Campbell, a one-game playoff to decide the regular-season champion, Appomattox’s Jake Perkins took a no-hitter into the sixth and wound up a 4-1 winner three days after no-hitting Altavista in a five-inning affair.

E.C. Glass senior Wistar Nelligan III, the No. 2 seed on the Hilltoppers’ boys tennis team, has been named the recipient of the Virginia High School League’s Group AA Male Citizenship Award Scholarship, sponsored by Wells Fargo and the VHSL.
